The Science of Subterranean Monsters

Tremors
Monstrous Wildlife
by Frank Robnik

Remember the 1990 movie Tremors, starring Kevin Bacon? Animator Frank Robnik sure does. In the following short he takes the film's Graboid monsters and turns them into the subject of a fictional nature show.

Whether it be the examination of the Graboids' own form of underground echolocation, or a study of it's favoured method of attack, Monstrous Wildlife depicts a fictional beast as realistically as possible, and it's a lot of fun to watch.

However that's not the main reason I enjoyed this short. What drew me in was the quality and artistry of Robnik's animation. The piece sports a great style, a retro feel, and an info-graphic sensibility that really matches the material.

Enjoy!

Monstrous Wildlife is an educational film about Graboids, which I've created for my bachelor thesis at the university of applied sciences augsburg (germany) 2010.
